“IMD Forecasts Snowfall and Rain in North India Due to Fresh Western Disturbance from January 4”

Fresh Western Disturbance to Bring Snowfall, Rain to North India from January 4, Says IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that a fresh western disturbance will affect northwest India starting from the night of January 4, bringing snowfall and rain to the region. The weather system is expected to cause widespread rainfall and snowfall in the western Himalayan region on January 4 and 5.

In a statement released on Sunday, the IMD informed that the western disturbance would trigger scattered rainfall and snowfall in the western Himalayan region from January 1 to 3, followed by more widespread weather disturbances on the 4th and 5th.

IMD scientist Soma Sen Roy provided further insights into the current weather patterns, explaining that the cold wave conditions had subsided in most parts of north India due to the retreat of the previous western disturbance. However, cold wave conditions were still being observed in the western Himalayan region.

Sen Roy also stated that the absence of strong winds had resulted in foggy conditions that persisted across the region. However, the fog had cleared and was now present as low clouds over much of north India, leading to cold day conditions.

The arrival of the fresh western disturbance is expected to bring a rise in minimum temperatures by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, as rain is predicted to affect regions including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The IMD has advised residents to be prepared for changing weather conditions as the disturbance brings rain and snow to these states.

With the onset of the new disturbance, weather experts are urging the public to take precautions against the cold, especially in the affected areas of northern India, where winter conditions can intensify with the rainfall and snow.
