In a significant crackdown on illegal immigration, Bengaluru police arrested 10 more Pakistani nationals on Tuesday for residing in India without valid documentation. This latest round of arrests brings the total number of detained Pakistani citizens in the city to 17 in recent weeks, according to news agency PTI.
The arrests occurred in the Jigani area, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru. They followed the earlier detention of a man named Parvez, who is accused of providing shelter to 22 Pakistani citizens across Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka. Authorities allege that Parvez helped these individuals adopt Hindu names to blend in and avoid detection while living in the region.
Among those arrested on Tuesday were six women, all of whom are charged with staying in India using counterfeit documents and overstaying their visas. Police officials confirmed that this group was apprehended in the Jigani area, a mix of industrial and residential locales.
“In a fresh case registered in this regard, 10 Pakistani nationals, including six women, were arrested on Tuesday from the Jigani jurisdiction. They have been charged with illegally staying in India on fake and forged documents. Some were also found to be overstaying their visas,” a senior police officer stated.
In a related incident, four members of another Pakistani family were arrested in Jigani earlier, leading authorities to three additional arrests in the nearby Peenya locality during subsequent questioning. These developments have raised alarms about the increasing use of forged documents and identity manipulation by foreign nationals seeking to remain in India illegally.
Authorities have assured that investigations will continue to uncover the full extent of this illegal operation. Police emphasized that these arrests are part of a broader, ongoing initiative to monitor and regulate illegal immigration, focusing on preventing individuals from circumventing legal channels through fraudulent means.
