Bengaluru’s RR Nagar MLA Munirathna, who was recently granted bail in a rape case, was attacked with eggs during an event in his constituency. The incident occurred as Munirathna was walking towards his car after the event, surrounded by police personnel and security staff.
A viral video shows the MLA being pelted with eggs by miscreants, who fled the scene immediately after the attack. Munirathna’s security detail and police swiftly escorted him towards his car, and he was later rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Speaking to reporters following the attack, Munirathna alleged that the Congress party was behind the attack, claiming it was part of a larger plot to harm him. He specifically blamed Congress leader DK Shivakumar, accusing him of orchestrating the attack due to his brother DK Suresh’s loss in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Munirathna also implicated Kusuma, the wife of late IAS officer DK Ravi, suggesting that she might be involved in a conspiracy to have him killed following her defeat in the assembly elections.
In response to the attack, Bengaluru police have detained three individuals suspected of being involved in the egg-throwing incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
Munirathna, who is embroiled in a rape case, was granted anticipatory bail in October by a special court in Bengaluru. The case, filed by a 40-year-old woman from Rajarajeshwari Nagar, alleges multiple charges against Munirathna and others, including Sections 354A, 354C, 376, 506, 504, 120(b), 149, 384, 406, and 308 of the Indian Penal Code.
The incident has raised tensions between the BJP and Congress in Karnataka, with both parties engaged in heated accusations. The ongoing investigation into the egg attack is expected to reveal more details in the coming days.
